A white van drove into participants of Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade, killing one person and injuring 15, prompting a police manhunt for the driver.

At least one person was killed and 15 others were injured, some seriously, after a white van entered the Tiergarten park and struck a crowd attending Berlin's Christopher Street Day (CSD) celebrations on Saturday night. Police said the vehicle was found heavily damaged and abandoned at the scene, and a manhunt for the driver has been launched.

"We are conducting an intensive search for possible suspects," a police spokesperson said. Berlin authorities deployed numerous police officers and fire-rescue units to the area. Mayor Kai Wegner, who visited the site, called the incident an attack on the city's free and open society. Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the act would be fully investigated and punished. The parade, which had drawn hundreds of thousands of participants, was halted around 10:15 p.m. after the incident, and officials urged attendees to leave the area and avoid routes through Tiergarten. The event had included concerts at the Brandenburg Gate before being interrupted.
