Patriots owner Robert Kraft said the franchise has extended a contract proposal to cornerback Christian Gonzalez that would set new financial benchmarks for NFL cornerbacks and for the Patriots organization.
"We love Christian Gonzalez. We love him as a player, as a person, and that’s why we’ve made an offer to him to make him the highest-paid player to ever play that position in the NFL," Kraft told ESPN's Mike Reiss. He added that the deal would also become the highest-value contract in Patriots franchise history, reflecting the team's confidence in the second-round pick they drafted in 2022. The offer follows a recent league-wide trend, with Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie signing a four-year, $124 million contract that currently stands as the league’s benchmark for the position.
