Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' Holds $25 Million Friday as It Enters Second Weekend

Résumé

Nolan's 'The Odyssey' earned $25.9 million on Friday, projecting a $84.5 million weekend total and a domestic run of about $283 million, while other releases lag behind.

Christopher Nolan's drama "The Odyssey" continued to lead the U.S. box office entering its second weekend, adding $25.9 million on Friday. Projections show the film could reach $84.5 million by Sunday, a 32% decline from its $124 million opening weekend, and a total of roughly $283 million after two weeks.

The movie earned $264.1 million worldwide in its opening weekend, marking Nolan's highest global debut and surpassing the $249 million opening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in 2012. Analysts note the film is on pace to challenge the director's all-time highest-grossing title, which exceeded $1 billion.

In second place, the stage-to-screen musical "Hadestown: The Musical" is estimated to have made $4 million on Friday, with a projected $9 million weekend total. Disney's live-action "Moana" placed third with $3.1 million on Friday and an expected $10.8 million weekend, bringing its domestic total to about $102 million.

"Toy Story 5" held the fourth spot, earning $2.9 million on Friday and projected to finish the weekend with $10.1 million, pushing its domestic tally toward $449 million after six weeks. The film is expected to approach the $1 billion mark soon.

The animated adventure "Minions & Monsters" ranked fifth, adding $2.8 million on Friday and projected to reach $9.5 million for the weekend, taking its North American gross to roughly $155 million. The $85 million-budget picture has shown a modest drop of 30% from the previous week.
