LeBron James signs two-year deal with 76ers; agent says son Bronny remains with Lakers

Resumen

LeBron James agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with Philadelphia, while his agent confirmed that Bronny James is not part of a joint move and will stay with the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron James has signed a two-year contract worth $8 million with the Philadelphia 76ers, marking his 24th season in the NBA. The veteran forward said the decision was driven by his desire to compete for another championship, adding that he was not motivated by money or family considerations.

"This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. I still want to sacrifice, work, grind, compete, win and have a chance at another championship," James posted on social media.

Rich Paul, the CEO of Klutch Sports and the agent for both Jameses, told ESPN that the signing does not involve Bronny James and that there are no plans for the younger player to join his father in Philadelphia.

"They are not a package deal," Paul said.

Bronny James, who was drafted by the Lakers in 2024 and became part of the league’s first father-son duo, will remain with Los Angeles after his $2.3 million salary for the upcoming season was fully guaranteed. He appeared in 42 games last season, averaging 2.9 points per game.

The Lakers are expected to keep Bronny on their roster as they reshape the backcourt around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, with additional pieces such as Walker Kessler and potential free-agent signings projected to contribute.

LeBron’s former teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat, were mentioned as possible destinations before he opted for Philadelphia, where he expressed excitement about helping the 76ers become a championship contender.
