Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo arrested for OWI in Milwaukee

Summary

Tony Romo was arrested for operating while intoxicated on July 23 in Milwaukee and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was taken into custody on Thursday, July 23, after police stopped his vehicle on the high-rise bridge on I-43 southbound in Milwaukee. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said Romo performed poorly on standardized field-sobriety tests, leading to an OWI (operating while intoxicated) arrest, his first offense.

Romo was booked at the county jail around 9:45 p.m. and released later that night at approximately 11 p.m. A court date has been set for Sept. 21. Details such as the make of the vehicle, whether anyone else was present, or his blood-alcohol level have not been disclosed.

The 46-year-old, a Burlington, Wisconsin native, was in the state for the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament, where he tied for 73rd. Romo retired from the NFL in 2017 after a ten-year career with the Dallas Cowboys and has since worked as a CBS color commentator, covering multiple Super Bowls alongside Jim Nantz.
