Harry and Meghan Visit Princess Diana's Childhood Home During European Trip
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent part of their recent European vacation at Althorp, the estate where Princess Diana grew up, accompanied by their children Archie and Lilibet.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle travelled to Althorp, the Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire, where Princess Diana spent her childhood, during a recent European holiday. The couple were joined by their son Archie, 7, and daughter Lilibet, 5, who were photographed walking on the grounds and near the estate’s lake.
The visit was arranged by Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, who still resides at Althorp with his wife, Cat Jarman. According to reports, the family may have visited Diana’s burial site, located on an island in the estate’s Oval Lake, which is not open to the public.
"I think it’s very important for them to be there with her. It is, luckily, very tranquil here, and they can come and go as they wish whenever they want," Charles Spencer told People magazine.
In addition to the Althorp stop, the Sussexes spent time in Portugal, where they were seen at a beach and a swimming pool. Their trip to the United Kingdom was originally planned to coincide with the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, but family attendance changed after Harry was denied taxpayer-funded security.
Harry’s legal challenge over the security decision and a separate court case involving Associated Newspapers were cited as factors in the withdrawal of an invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace. The family instead met King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, marking the monarch’s first meeting with his grandchildren since 2022.
After the visit, the couple returned to their residence in Montecito, California, where they have lived since 2020.
