Florida reports 60 new Cyclospora cases, bringing state total to 152 in 2026

摘要

The Florida Department of Health recorded 60 additional Cyclospora infections for the week of July 12-18, raising the statewide total to 152 cases in 2026, with three cases now confirmed in the Big Bend region.

The Florida Department of Health’s weekly Reportable Diseases Frequency Report listed 60 newly confirmed Cyclospora infections for the period July 12 through July 18. Two of those cases were identified in the Big Bend area, one each in Leon and Wakulla counties, bringing the regional total to three after a June case in Gadsden County.

Public data indicate the Leon County patient was aged 35-39 and the Wakulla County patient was aged 40-44; both were classified as “Acquired in FL.”

Overall, the department has documented 152 confirmed Cyclospora cases in 2026, compared with 195 cases reported for the entire year of 2025.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s cyclosporiasis tracker shows between 31 and 80 individuals in Georgia have been reported sick since May 1, although the state does not publish its own surveillance data.

Federal health officials are investigating a separate outbreak that has affected 72 people, according to the Associated Press. The Food and Drug Administration has not yet linked the illnesses to any specific food product or identified the locations of the cases.

Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that can contaminate food when it comes into contact with human feces, often through irrigation or washing with contaminated water. Infection typically causes intestinal symptoms, including frequent bowel movements.
