German FA appoints Jürgen Klopp as national team head coach after negotiations with Red Bull

摘要

Jürgen Klopp has been named head coach of Germany's national football team following a deal that included a donation to Red Bull's charity and future matches at the Red Bull Arena.

Jürgen Klopp was confirmed as the new head coach of the Germany national football team at a press conference on the DFB Campus in Frankfurt. The German Football Association (DFB) had dismissed Julian Nagelsmann earlier this month after the team exited the 2026 World Cup in the Round of 32. Klopp, who left Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season and later served as Red Bull's Global Head of Soccer, will return to coaching with former Liverpool assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz joining his staff.

Negotiations required the DFB to secure Klopp’s release from his Red Bull contract. The association agreed to contribute €1 million to Red Bull’s Wings for Life foundation and to stage three international fixtures at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig by 2030. The national side last played at the venue in November, winning 6-0 against Slovakia in a World Cup qualifier.

“We’re very happy to be able to present Jurgen Klopp today as the new coach,” DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said. “We had very intense discussions. He was our ideal solution from the start. Our talks with Jurgen only strengthened our belief that he’s the right man at the right time.”
