Klopp confirms retirement and takes over as Germany head coach
Jurgen Klopp announced he will retire from club management and has been appointed Germany manager through the 2030 World Cup, ending speculation about a return to Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp said he will retire from club management after being appointed head coach of the German national team. The German Football Association confirmed his contract runs until the 2030 World Cup during a press conference on Friday.
Klopp, who left Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season citing fatigue after nine years that included Premier League and Champions League titles, previously served as Red Bull’s head of global soccer before returning to a front-line role with Germany.
"I love this job, but I’m always ready to call it quits if needed," Klopp said, adding that the Germany position represents the final chapter of his coaching career.
He emphasized that his appointment does not guarantee immediate success and called for realistic expectations as the team rebuilds.
"Jurgen Klopp being in the job doesn't automatically mean we're going to be world champions," he warned, noting that Germany must develop its own style and intensity rather than emulate other nations.
Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool, marked by domestic and European trophies, will serve as a benchmark as he seeks to improve Germany’s performance on the international stage.
