Brewers explore trade options to strengthen pitching and power hitting before deadline

Résumé

Milwaukee is considering several players, including a starting pitcher, a left-handed reliever and a power-hitting outfielder, to address roster gaps as the trade deadline approaches.

Milwaukee leads the National League Central and is close to the league’s best record, but the club is evaluating trade targets to improve depth for a potential postseason run. The front office is focusing on three areas: a reliable starter, a left-handed high-leverage reliever and additional power in the lineup.

One candidate for the rotation is right-hander José Soriano of the Angels, a ground-ball pitcher with strong extension and a hard fastball. Although his recent ERA has risen, his early-season performance and profile align with Milwaukee’s pitching philosophy. The team is also monitoring left-hander Adrian Morejón of the Padres, whose 3.40 ERA and 2.46 FIP suggest effective run prevention, and who offers a left-handed option for the bullpen.

For offensive power, the Brewers are looking at outfielder Jo Adell of the Angels. Adell provides right-handed home-run potential, having hit 15 homers this season, and performs well against left-handed pitching. While his defensive play has been questioned, he could serve in right field or as a designated hitter, complementing the existing right-handed power hitters on the roster.

The club’s scouting reports note that other players, such as Tigers pitcher Casey Mize, Padres reliever Mason Miller, and various outfielders, may become available, but the primary focus remains on the three identified targets.
