President Trump honors Dodgers' back-to-back World Series win at White House

Resumen

President Donald Trump hosted Los Angeles Dodgers players, including Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman, in the White House Rose Garden to celebrate their 2024 World Series title, praising the team as a global brand.

President Donald Trump welcomed members of the Los Angeles Dodgers to the White House on Thursday, marking the team’s second consecutive World Series championship. The Rose Garden ceremony featured the presentation of two World Series trophies and a replica championship ring.

Trump highlighted the Dodgers’ Game 7 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, describing the series as “a hell of a series” and noting the rarity of back-to-back titles for the franchise. He expressed enthusiasm about meeting Shohei Ohtani, comparing the Japanese star’s impact to that of baseball legend Babe Ruth, and called the Dodgers “one of the great brands anywhere in the world.”

“I’m thrilled to say welcome back to the White House,” Trump said, adding that he hoped to see the team again next year.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts responded, “We’re going for a three-peat.” The president also referenced the team’s strong current record and briefly mentioned ongoing diplomatic matters with Iran.

The event included a performance of an instrumental version of Randy Newman’s “I Love LA,” and Trump joked about adding Dodgers memorabilia to the White House “Walk of Fame” that features presidential plaques.

Mookie Betts was absent from the ceremony, citing family commitments, and the team’s earlier attempt to schedule a White House visit in April was postponed due to a packed early-season schedule. The occasion continued a long tradition of championship sports teams visiting the White House, a practice dating back to 1869.
