Head coach Steve Sarkisian praised Arch Manning's growth after a difficult first year, noting his improvement and readiness for the upcoming season.

Texas quarterback Arch Manning faced intense scrutiny during his first season as a starter, but head coach Steve Sarkisian said the experience will serve as a foundation for the 2026 campaign. Sarkisian told reporters at SEC Media Days that the challenges Manning endured would have "melted or destroyed 99 percent of the people in his shoes," but added that the quarterback is now a "very dangerous player" surrounded by talent and poised for a strong season.

Manning, who underwent foot surgery in the winter, returned in the spring and spent time working with running backs and receivers. He acknowledged that his short-yardage passing was "not very good," citing a 56.3 percent completion rate on passes of 0-10 yards.

After a rough start to the 2025 season, Manning finished the final six games with 14 touchdown passes and only two interceptions. He said he had to confront his own frustration, noting, "I was mad at myself. I’m like, why am I not playing well? It’s not supposed to be like this. I’m letting myself down. I’m letting the team down, the fans."

Manning emphasized perseverance, stating that the only option was to keep working to improve. He will open the 2026 season against Texas State on Sept. 5.
