LeBron James Said to Decide Free-Agency Destination Independently

NBA star LeBron James and his representative Rich Paul are reportedly not waiting for other teams to make roster moves before choosing a new club, with several franchises already in consideration.

LeBron James is expected to select his next team on his own timetable, according to ESPN reporter Shams Charania. The insider said James, his agent Rich Paul and their inner circle have completed discussions and are not awaiting trades involving players such as Anthony Davis or Kyrie Irving.

"Now that we’re 20 days in, there’s nothing left. The teams are the teams. The information is the information. LeBron has everything he needs to make a decision," Charania told listeners on "The Pat McAfee Show. "They’re not waiting for Anthony Davis to get traded anywhere. They’re not waiting for anyone else to move anywhere. The teams – Cleveland, Miami, Golden State, Philadelphia, Minnesota – they’re set."

He added that the decision will focus on factors like the chance to contend for a championship and fit within a winning culture, rather than contract size. The Golden State Warriors remain among the likely destinations, offering the prospect of playing with Stephen Curry under coach Steve Kerr.

Charania noted that if James and Paul had asked the Heat, Cavaliers or Warriors to make specific moves during the first week of July, those teams might have complied, but no such request was made. While NBA commissioner Adam Silver has expressed interest in a swift resolution, James and his agency appear to be operating on their own schedule.
