Giants expect rookie WR Malik Nabers to avoid PUP list for season opener

Summary

The New York Giants anticipate that first-round pick Malik Nabers will be cleared to practice and could play in the opening game despite recent knee surgeries.

The New York Giants expect rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers to be cleared for practice and avoid the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as training camp begins. Nabers, who tore the ACL in his right knee during Week 4 against the Chargers and underwent surgery on Oct. 28, required a second procedure this offseason to remove scar tissue caused by stiffness. The team plans to manage his return carefully, with the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys as a potential target.

Nabers, the 2024 first-round selection, recorded 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns last season. Coach John Harbaugh described the knee injury as “not simple.”

"Nabers’ knee injury was not simple," Harbaugh said.

The Giants will monitor his progress throughout camp before confirming his availability for the first game.
