Boseman siblings sue widow over distribution of late actor's estate
Chadwick Boseman's brothers have filed a lawsuit seeking to remove his widow as administrator of his estate and to compel distribution of assets to their parents.
Chadwick Boseman's two older brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles on July 17 seeking to have their sister-in-law, Taylor Simone Ledward, removed as administrator of the late actor's estate. The filing, obtained by a news outlet, asks the court to order Ledward to distribute the estate’s assets, valued at more than $3.8 million, to their parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, as previously directed by a 2022 court order.
According to the complaint, Ledward inherited 50 % of the estate and was expected to allocate the remaining half equally between the parents, giving each a 25 % share. The brothers allege that, nearly four years after the court’s directive, Ledward has not fulfilled the distribution and has not provided a full accounting of assets, including royalties, residuals, image and intellectual-property rights, real property, and a previously undisclosed bank account.
The suit also claims that Ledward continues to control the estate through Chadwick Boseman, Inc., a corporate entity she manages, and that this control has prevented the brothers from pursuing business opportunities that could benefit their parents. The brothers contend that the lack of transparency creates the appearance of concealed assets.
Ledward’s legal representatives have not responded to requests for comment, and attorneys for Derrick and Kevin did not immediately reply. Chadwick Boseman died on Aug. 28, 2020 at age 43 after a private battle with colon cancer and left no will.
