Trump reposts edited World Cup trophy ceremony video omitting his stage linger
President Donald Trump shared a shortened clip of the 2023 World Cup final ceremony that excludes the moment he remained onstage after Spain's victory, while the original footage showed him being ushered off by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
President Donald Trump posted a 24-second edited video of the World Cup final trophy presentation on his Truth Social account. The clip shows the handover of the trophy to Spain and brief handshakes with several players, but it ends before Trump stays at the edge of the stage while the Spanish team celebrates. In the full broadcast, FIFA President Gianni Infantino guided Trump offstage after Spain’s captain gestured for him to move on.
The original ceremony, held at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, featured a cannon that released golden confetti as the Spanish squad cheered. Images shared by the Spanish national team and FIFA on the social platform X did not include Trump, and he was reportedly booed by the crowd during the event.
Earlier in the tournament, Trump said he called Infantino to complain about a red-card decision involving U.S. striker Folarin Balogun in a match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Infantino said the disciplinary process was handled by independent FIFA bodies, describing the outcome as a “balanced measure.”
Trump, who received FIFA’s inaugural Peace Prize last year, has recently criticized Spain’s defense spending and NATO contributions, calling the country a “wasted cause” and a “terrible partner in NATO.”
