Tesla's latest software update adds new voice commands, navigation improvements and other features, while the company extends its ride-hailing operations to San Francisco International Airport and two Florida cities.

Tesla announced its 2026 Summer Update, introducing roughly ten new software features for its vehicles. Among the changes, the Grok voice assistant can now place phone calls, search and play music, adjust climate settings, open the glovebox and answer vehicle-related questions. The mobile app will display self-driving statistics that users can share, and a new "Caraoke" mode scores singing while the car is parked, storing high scores to the driver’s profile.

Navigation receives several upgrades: the system can now suggest routes based on routine stops such as school drop-offs or gym visits, and it will prioritize previously taken routes. Users can also set a desired arrival energy level from the phone and upload custom vehicle wraps via the app. A rear-display lock limits control of the rear screen to front-row passengers, while other tweaks include searching for Superchargers by name, adding Apple Music tracks to the queue, adjusting the zoom level of the self-driving visualization and new intro animations for Model 3 and Model Y.

In parallel, Tesla expanded its Bay Area ride-hailing service to include pickups and drop-offs at San Francisco International Airport. The service, which uses Model Y vehicles equipped with Full Self-Driving (Supervised) technology and human safety drivers, operates under a city-issued limousine permit valid through January 2027. Tesla’s ride-hailing platform, launched in July 2025, allows users to book, route and pay for trips through a dedicated app, with pricing based on distance, time and demand.

Tesla also confirmed that Starlink V5 terminals will be installed in its upcoming Cybercab vehicles, primarily to maintain a constant data connection for fleet management, navigation and customer service, rather than for passenger entertainment. Additionally, the company extended its Robotaxi program in Florida to include Tampa and Orlando, where the service operates without safety drivers inside the vehicle, according to the head of AI.

These updates reflect Tesla's ongoing strategy to integrate more software functionality into its cars and broaden its mobility offerings across key U.S. markets.
