IMAX chief Rich Gelfond reported that Christopher Nolan's film 'The Odyssey' generated over $124 million in its opening weekend and sold out late-night showings, highlighting strong demand for IMAX presentations.

IMAX chief executive Rich Gelfond told Fox Business that Christopher Nolan's action epic "The Odyssey" earned more than $124 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend. He said the film’s late-night and early-morning screenings were fully booked, with audiences seeking extra tickets.

Gelfond credited both the director’s work and the IMAX format for the film’s performance, noting that the movie was shot exclusively on IMAX 70mm film and used over two million feet of film. He said Nolan had approached IMAX a year earlier with technical requirements for the project, which the company met after significant effort.

The CEO added that the strong box-office results could boost demand for future IMAX releases. He also addressed questions about expanding the limited network of 70mm IMAX screens, describing the equipment as complex and comparable to a luxury vehicle, which makes large-scale expansion challenging but not impossible.
