Ed Harris Returns to Paramount+ Series "Dutton Ranch" for Season Two After Showrunner Change

Summary

Actor Ed Harris will reprise his role in the second season of the Paramount+ series "Dutton Ranch" following concerns about his character’s usage and a change in showrunner.

Ed Harris confirmed he will return for season two of the Paramount+ series "Dutton Ranch," after earlier expressing frustration with how his character, Everett McKinney, was handled during the first season. The actor said he felt misled about the prominence of his role and considered leaving the production midway through filming.

"Midway through this first season, I was ready to go, I said, ‘Get me out of here,’ because I didn’t feel like I was being used… I felt a little bit misled," Harris told Variety at a red-carpet event.

Harris reported that his complaints were initially dismissed, but a change in the series’ leadership appears to have addressed his concerns. Creator Chad Feehan, who served as the first-season showrunner, departed before the series premiere, and Benjamin Cavell, known for creating "SWAT Team," was appointed as the new showrunner. Sources said Harris was involved in selecting Cavell and that the revamped creative direction will place Everett McKinney at the forefront of the upcoming season.

Production for season two is scheduled to begin on Jan. 15, and Harris has secured a two-year contract with an option for a third season. He also recalled a deleted bar-scene song that was cut from the first episode, which contributed to his dissatisfaction at the time.
