LeBron James' agent says free-agent decision will not be rushed

Résumé

Agent Rich Paul told his podcast that LeBron James has not yet decided on a team for the 2024-25 season and will announce his choice when ready.

LeBron James' representative Rich Paul told listeners on the "Game Over" podcast that the NBA star has not reached a decision on his next team and will not be hurried. "We’re not going to be rushed. It’s his choice to make, and when he makes the choice, he’ll make it," Paul said.

When host Max Kellerman asked whether any club was leading the race or if James was leaning toward a particular destination, Paul replied that he could not comment and did not know the timing, adding that the decision could come at any moment.

Paul noted that the Los Angeles Lakers were informed on June 30 that James would not return for the 2026-27 season, and that James has narrowed his options to five teams: the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors. He said teams have already made their pitches and there is nothing further they need to do.

The prolonged timeline has delayed roster planning for several clubs, which are typically set by mid-July. James made public appearances in New York over the weekend but offered no new details. Paul rejected suggestions that the delay was intended for publicity, emphasizing that the choice is a business decision and not a spectacle.
