US Court Unseals Documents Detailing New Rape and Trafficking Charges Against Tate Brothers

Resumen

Unsealed filings reveal additional rape, sexual assault and trafficking accusations against Andrew and Tristan Tate as they contest a UK extradition request while held in Florida.

Federal court documents released Monday detail new allegations of rape, sexual assault and human trafficking against social-media personalities Andrew and Tristan Tate. The complaints, filed by British authorities, describe incidents in which women were allegedly choked, assaulted and forced into sexual acts in England between 2014 and 2015. Andrew Tate is charged with seven counts of rape, three counts of sex trafficking, three assaults and 19 offenses related to indecent images of a child, bringing his total to 42 counts. Tristan Tate faces two rape counts, one sexual assault count and three charges of facilitating travel for exploitation, totaling 17 counts.

The brothers, who hold dual U.S. and U.K. citizenship, were arrested by U.S. Marshals in Florida on July 18 while traveling to a boxing event. They have denied all allegations and their attorneys argue the extradition request is politically motivated and interferes with ongoing criminal proceedings in Romania, where the pair remain on modified release after a 2022 arrest on similar charges. One attorney publicly urged the U.S. administration to intervene.

U.S. officials confirmed the arrests complied with the U.S.–U.K. extradition treaty, and a hearing will determine whether the treaty’s requirements are met. The final decision rests with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has not yet commented on the case. Legal experts note that while the brothers cite a prior agreement between the U.K. and Romania to defer extradition, that arrangement does not bind the United States.

A representative for a victim of alleged Romanian trafficking expressed gratitude to U.S. and U.K. authorities for pursuing the case. The next steps include a U.S. district judge’s ruling on bail and a determination of whether the extradition criteria are satisfied, with the process expected to continue over the coming weeks.
