Hundreds of Homes and Businesses Damaged in Kerr County Floods
More than 490 homes and 100 businesses were damaged after prolonged rains caused flooding in Kerr County, Texas, with two deaths reported this year.
Prolonged rainfall over several days led to flooding in Kerr County, Texas, damaging over 490 homes and 100 businesses, officials said. The event resulted in two fatalities across South and Central Texas, a marked decrease from the more than 130 deaths recorded during the July 4, 2025 floods.
Local authorities noted that the slower pace of the rain, combined with newly installed sirens and heightened public vigilance, helped reduce the death toll. > "This time was different. We had a lot of alerts. Everyone was warning everyone," said Vinny Mifsud, who runs night kayaking tours near the Francisco Lemos Bridge in Kerrville. > "We were able to get more people to safety, and that's the main thing, saving lives. Our sirens, our officials warned everyone properly. They got the word out."
Volunteers, family members and friends assisted affected residents over the weekend, helping to clear mud, remove water-logged furniture and appliances, and sort through damaged belongings. In some areas, floodwaters rose higher than during the previous year's event.
