Summary

President Donald Trump called on House GOP members to support a budget-reconciliation package that includes the SAVE America Act and $95 billion in spending, while some conservative lawmakers object to the lack of offsetting cuts.

President Donald Trump used his Truth Social account to thank Speaker Mike Johnson and House Budget Committee members for drafting a budget-reconciliation framework that would incorporate elements of the SAVE America Act and allocate about $95 billion in new spending through 2036. He urged all House Republicans to vote for the accompanying budget resolution, describing the effort as a way to support farmers, the military and election-integrity measures.

The proposal would also add roughly $73 billion for national-security programs as the United States remains engaged in tensions with Iran. Under the reconciliation process, the legislation could advance without Democratic Senate support, but it must comply with strict parliamentary rules.

Some Republican lawmakers expressed reservations about the absence of explicit spending cuts, or “pay-for” measures, to offset the new outlays. Rep. Eric Burlison said he would vote against the bill because it lacks a defunding provision for Planned Parenthood and any offsetting revenue. Representatives Andy Ogles and Tim Burchett also voiced concerns about the missing pay-for provisions, with Burchett indicating he might oppose the final measure if it reaches the Senate.

A source familiar with the House Freedom Caucus said the group would consider supporting the framework only if the full SAVE America Act is ultimately included. Rep. Marlin Stutzman, a budget-committee member, acknowledged the apprehension about lacking a clear pay-for but argued that the election-security provisions are essential.

The SAVE America Act, which would establish a federal voter-ID standard and require proof of citizenship for voter registration, passed the House but has stalled in the Senate, where Democrats have raised concerns that it could suppress voting. House leaders are seeking to embed parts of the bill in the broader reconciliation package to bypass Senate opposition.

"I am asking all House Republicans to VOTE YES this week on the Budget Resolution, which is an important first step towards getting a Budget Bill," Trump wrote.

"The SAVE America Act is our top priority — the president wants it done. Mandatory voter ID and proof of citizenship through reconciliation would be a game-changer for this country," a source told Fox News Digital.

"We can't spend years warning about our fiscal crisis and then abandon pay-fors the moment they're politically inconvenient," a senior House GOP aide said.
