Today Show Returns to Normal After Intruder Incident
Savannah Guthrie resumed co-hosting the Today show following a studio intrusion in which a man shouted racial slurs at Craig Melvin; the suspect faces felony hate-crime charges.
Savannah Guthrie appeared on the Today show on Monday, marking her first on-air appearance since an intruder entered the studio last Thursday. The incident involved 41-year-old Andrew Truelove, who accessed a restricted area and shouted racial slurs at co-host Craig Melvin before security removed him.
"NBC and Today take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously," a Today spokesperson said, adding that the network is reviewing security protocols.
Melvin, who was not on air Friday, returned to the broadcast the following day and is now on a pre-scheduled vacation. Truelove has been charged with two third-degree felonies—burglary and menacing—both classified as hate crimes. The show continues its regular programming as it addresses the security breach.
