Jury Selection Begins in Massachusetts Mother’s Murder Trial

सारांश

A pool of 130 prospective jurors is being screened for the trial of Lindsay Clancy, who faces three murder counts for the 2023 deaths of her three children.

Jury selection started Monday for the case of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother charged with murdering her three children in 2023. Prosecutors have indicted her on three counts of murder for the deaths of her 5-year-old daughter Cora, 3-year-old son Dawson and 7-month-old son Callan. Clancy, who became partially paralyzed after harming herself following the deaths, has entered a not-guilty plea and is being held at Tewksbury State Hospital.

Judge William F. Sullivan said he expects to empanel 18 jurors and anticipates a trial lasting six to eight weeks. Prospective jurors will complete a questionnaire and review a witness list of more than 200 names to confirm they have no connections to potential witnesses. The judge denied the defense’s request to sequester the jury but will check daily with jurors to ensure they avoid media coverage and outside research.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington described the case as “the most emotionally disturbing and challenging” he has encountered in his career and indicated the defense will argue a lack of criminal responsibility, citing overmedication for postpartum depression. Earlier this month, prosecutors moved to consolidate certain charges, filing a notice of nolle prosequi on three strangulation counts, which the district attorney’s office said were redundant and would be subsumed under the murder charges.
