Liam Gallagher Criticizes FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show
Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher called the World Cup final halftime performance a “bad trip,” expressing disappointment with the varied acts presented during the show.
Oasis singer Liam Gallagher said the halftime entertainment at Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final fell short of his expectations. Writing on the social platform X, he described the segment featuring Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, BTS, Burna Boy, composer Gustavo Dudamel and the Muppets as “like a bad trip.”
"This is like a bad trip. It's a good job I've got my spiritual socks on or that halftime entertainment could have tipped me over the edge," Gallagher posted.
The show opened with Madonna performing two songs, including a new version of her 2000 hit “Music” and the single “Danceteria,” while riding a golf cart driven by Brazilian football legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho through the stadium’s underground tunnels. BTS briefly performed “Dynamite,” and actor Jason Sudeikis appeared in character as Coach Ted Lasso, accompanied by Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard, to introduce a segment with Justin Bieber, who sang “Everything Hallelujah.”
Shakira and Burna Boy presented their collaboration “Dai Dai,” and a choir of fourth- and fifth-grade students from Staten Island’s PS 22 performed Coldplay’s “We Dance” alongside frontman Chris Martin.
Gallagher’s comments came after England’s loss in the semi-final, which set up a final between Argentina and Spain. Earlier in the tournament, he had promoted Oasis’s “Wonderwall” as an unofficial anthem for the England team.
