Russian Forces Intensify Infiltration Tactics Near Pokrovsk, Ukraine Reports
Ukrainian military officials report that Russian troops are increasing infiltration and sabotage efforts near Pokrovsk, a key front-line town in Donetsk Oblast, as fighting intensifies in the region.
Russian forces are intensifying their efforts to breach Ukrainian defenses near Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast, according to Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. Syrskyi described Pokrovsk as one of the most challenging areas along the front line, noting that Russian troops are employing what he called "total infiltration" tactics and increasing sabotage activities behind Ukrainian lines.
Syrskyi, who visited command posts near Pokrovsk on August 2, stated that Russian forces are "stepping up efforts to capture key agglomerations, looking for vulnerabilities in our defense, and conducting active combat operations in several directions simultaneously." He added that Ukrainian troops are actively repelling Russian sabotage and small infantry groups attempting to infiltrate the area, but so far, Russian forces have not succeeded in entering Pokrovsk through these tactics.
In response, Ukrainian military units are deploying anti-sabotage reserves and reinforcing fortifications, including barriers and anti-drone tunnels. Local commanders are also working to strengthen defensive positions. The situation comes as Russian assaults in the sector have increased in recent weeks, with Moscow concentrating significant forces near Pokrovsk and seeking to expand the front line toward neighboring Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. Syrskyi previously reported that Russia had amassed 111,000 troops in the area.
