Andrew and Tristan Tate arrested in Miami pending UK extradition on rape and trafficking charges

सारांश

British prosecutors have added new rape and sex-trafficking counts against the Tate brothers, leading to their arrest in Miami and a pending extradition request to the United Kingdom.

British prosecutors have filed additional rape, assault, trafficking and child-pornography charges against social-media personalities Andrew and Tristan Tate, bringing the total number of alleged victims in the United Kingdom to seven. The new allegations, relating to offenses between 2010 and 2017, were disclosed after Bedfordshire Police provided evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The brothers were taken into custody in Miami on Saturday and are being held in federal detention while a U.S. magistrate judge reviews the UK’s extradition request. Their lawyer said bail is unlikely and expects they will remain jailed during the proceedings.

Andrew Tate faces seven extra rape counts, three trafficking counts, three assault counts and 19 charges involving indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate is charged with one sexual-assault count, two rape counts and three trafficking counts. Both already face earlier UK charges for rape, bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution linked to three other victims from 2012 to 2015.

"The charges are baseless and constitute slander," said Joseph McBride, the brothers’ attorney, adding that he is confident the extradition request will be denied.

The final decision on extradition will rest with the U.S. Secretary of State, after a district judge determines whether the legal criteria are met. The case follows prior arrests in Romania in 2022, which remain unresolved due to procedural issues.
