«Одиссея» Нолана заработала 264 миллиона долларов по всему миру в уик-энд открытия

Кратко

Экранизация Гомеровской эпопеи Кристофером Ноланом открылась с 124,5 млн долларов в США и Канаде и 139,6 млн долларов за рубежом, превзойдя премьеру его предыдущего фильма «Оппенгеймер».

Кристофер Нолан's "The Odyssey" opened to an estimated $124.5 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales and $139.6 million from overseas markets, giving the director his strongest opening since 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises" and outpacing the debut of "Oppenheimer". The film, produced by Universal with a $250 million budget and a $125 million marketing spend, was released in a format marketed as the director's first feature shot entirely with IMAX cameras.

"It’s incredibly rewarding to see the palpable excitement in theaters this weekend," said Jim Orr, head of domestic distribution for Universal. "Nolan has crafted an epic adventure. It’s on a scale that audiences have responded to extraordinarily well."

IMAX contributed significantly to the box-office performance, generating $29.6 million of the domestic total and $51.8 million globally, with 41 IMAX screens showing the 70 mm version accounting for $6.3 million in sales. IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond noted that the format helped elevate the release to a "global cultural event" and that tickets for the fifth week were already selling out in some locations.

Industry data from Rentrak indicated that ticket sales this summer are 10.4 % higher than the previous year, positioning the domestic market for a potential $10 billion annual total. The film faced no new-release competition over its opening weekend and is expected to maintain strong attendance in the coming weeks.

"Christopher Nolan and Tom Cruise may be the two most high-profile ambassadors for the big-screen experience," said Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends for Rentrak.

The audience was 59 % male, but Orr said the demographic spread was broad, appealing to both younger and older viewers. The cast includes Matt Damon, Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and Elliot Page. Despite some controversy over casting choices, the film received a 95 % fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an "A" CinemaScore.

The weekend's box-office rankings placed "The Odyssey" first, followed by Disney's "Moana" with $19 million, and other releases such as "Minions & Monsters" and "Toy Story 5" near the bottom of the top ten.
