UFC chief says Conor McGregor will undergo knee surgery after 69-second loss

Resumen

UFC CEO Dana White confirmed that Conor McGregor suffered an ACL and meniscus injury in his right knee at UFC 329 and will require surgery and rehabilitation before any discussion of a future fight.

UFC chief Dana White announced on Saturday that Conor McGregor sustained a serious knee injury during his 69-second defeat at UFC 329 and will undergo surgery on his right knee. The injury includes a torn anterior cruciate ligament and damage to the meniscus, according to the promotion’s spokesperson.

"His knee's injured. He's having knee surgery. That's it. He'll need physical therapy and will only be cleared for training when his doctor says it's safe," White said at the post-fight press conference in Oklahoma City.

McGregor confirmed the diagnosis on social media, noting that he is able to walk without assistance and has begun light resistance work. He expressed optimism that advances in medical treatment could allow a return by next summer, though no specific timeline was set.

The loss marked McGregor's first fight since 2021 and ended his rematch with Max Holloway, who won by TKO after McGregor missed a flying switch kick. The Irish fighter had two bouts left on his contract and had previously discussed a possible return in early 2027, as well as exploring free agency after his contract expires.
