Evenepoel claims victory on Stage 15 as Vingegaard crashes out

Résumé

Remco Evenepoel won the 15th stage of the 2026 Tour de France, while Jonas Vingegaard withdrew after a crash and Tim Merlier abandoned the race.

Remco Evenepoel secured the win on the 15th stage of the 2026 Tour de France, which finished atop the Plateau de Solaison after a series of attacks in the final kilometres. Tadej Pogačar led the group with Evenepoel and Isaac Del Toro on his wheel, but Evenepoel stayed ahead to take the stage.

The stage was marked by several withdrawals. Belgian sprinter Tim Merlier abandoned after missing the time cut, and Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard crashed and was forced to leave the race, prompting concern for his condition.

Other notable moves included Quinn Simmons and Tom Pidcock featuring in the breakaway, while several riders, including Egan Bernal and Jasper Philipsen, were caught as the peloton accelerated on the climb. The white jersey changed hands as the young French rider Paul Seixas took over the lead in the young rider classification.

"We are focused on the race and will continue to support our leaders," a spokesperson for UAE Team Emirates said after the stage.

The finish saw a tightly contested sprint among the leading trio, with Evenepoel crossing the line first, followed by Pogačar and Del Toro. The stage result reshapes the general-classification standings ahead of the final mountain challenges.
