Two U.S. Service Members Killed and One Missing After Iranian Attack in Jordan
The U.S. military confirmed two personnel were killed and a third is missing following an Iranian strike on a base in Jordan, amid escalating hostilities between the United States and Iran.
The U.S. Central Command said two American service members were killed on Friday in Jordan and a third is missing after an Iranian attack on a U.S. support facility at Al Azraq. The deaths raise the total U.S. fatalities in the conflict to 16, with more than 420 wounded.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted on X, "Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve."
Iran’s supreme leader, in a statement circulated on official social media, accused the United States of repeatedly violating an interim cease-fire agreement and warned that Iran and its allies would respond to what it described as U.S. attempts to expand the fighting.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have struck the Jordanian base, destroying aircraft and a radar facility, and also reported attacks on sites in Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Kuwait’s armed forces said they intercepted Iranian missiles and drones, and reported injuries among firefighters and oil-sector workers.
U.S. forces have continued air operations against Iranian targets in the Hormozgan province of Iran, hitting surveillance sites, logistics infrastructure and weapons storage. Iran’s health ministry said the strikes killed 50 people and injured more than 500 in the past three weeks.
The conflict, which began after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian facilities in February, has disrupted energy supplies and raised concerns about the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil transit route. The European Union and Gulf states have called on Iran to halt attacks on maritime navigation and keep the strait open.
