Andrew and Tristan Tate arrested in US as UK files additional rape and trafficking charges
British prosecutors have charged the Tate brothers with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault and trafficking, and the United States has detained them pending extradition.
British authorities have arrested social media personalities Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan in the United States after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced additional charges. Andrew Tate faces seven new rape counts along with allegations of sex trafficking and child pornography, while Tristan Tate is charged with one sexual-assault count, two rape counts and three counts of facilitating sexual-exploitation trafficking. The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017.
Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said the latest charging decisions followed receipt of further evidence from Bedfordshire Police and increased the total number of alleged victims to seven. The US Marshals Service confirmed the brothers were taken into custody, and a Department of Justice spokesperson said the arrests were made "pursuant to extradition proceedings."
The CPS has formally requested extradition of the dual British-US citizens. Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, denied the allegations, stating that the brothers are innocent and describing the new UK charges as a "political hit" aimed at countering a defamation lawsuit filed by the brothers in the United States. He expressed confidence that a judge would dismiss the case.
The brothers previously faced a list of 21 charges in the UK covering alleged crimes between 2012 and 2016. In 2024, Bedfordshire Police obtained European arrest warrants to secure their return from Romania, where they were under investigation. A recent court ruling denied the Tates’ request to learn the identities of their alleged accusers, with the CPS citing the need to protect victim anonymity until formal proceedings begin.
