Savannah Guthrie departs New York after intruder incident at Today studio

Resumen

Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie left New York City following an intruder attack on the studio, amid ongoing concerns about her mother’s disappearance.

Savannah Guthrie and husband Michael Feldman were photographed Friday at LaGuardia Airport as they prepared to leave New York City, a day after an intruder entered the Today show studios and assaulted co-anchor Craig Melvin. The incident occurred shortly after Guthrie had exited the building on Thursday.

The intruder, identified as Andrew Truelove, entered the building looking for Al Roker, confronted Melvin and allegedly used a racial slur. He now faces multiple hate-crime charges, and both Melvin and Roker have been granted protective orders.

Sources quoted to the Daily Mail said the timing of the breach was “incredibly triggering” for Guthrie, who has been dealing with the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy, from an Arizona home in February. Guthrie has publicly appealed for information about her mother’s case and offered a reward.

NBC News reportedly dismissed a security guard who allowed the intruder into the studio, and the network has increased security measures, including additional personal protection for Guthrie. An insider said the newsroom is focused on her well-being and that she may take additional time off.

Guthrie returned to the Today show on April 6, stating, “It is good to be home,” during her first broadcast since the incident and her mother’s disappearance.
