Josh Kerr Sets New Mile World Record at London Diamond League

Resumen

Scotland's Josh Kerr ran 3:42.66 to break Hicham El Guerrouj's 1999 mile record at the London Diamond League meet.

Scotland's Josh Kerr lowered the mile world record to 3:42.66 at the London Diamond League on Saturday, surpassing Hicham El Guerrouj's 3:43.13 set in 1999. The achievement concluded an eight-month training program Kerr called Project 222, aimed at eclipsing the long-standing mark.

Kerr was paced by teammate Brandon Kidder to the 800-metre point and by Zan Rudolf to 1,000 metres, with lap times of 54.75, 55.88 and 55.76 seconds. U.S. record holder Yared Nuguse and Britain’s Jake Heyward followed in the final lap, but Kerr finished three seconds ahead, improving the record by 0.47 seconds.

"That was not me, that was my team every single step," Kerr said in an on-track interview, acknowledging the support from Brooks in developing a custom spike and speed suit for the race.
