Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' Cast Revealed with Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland

Resumen

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film 'The Odyssey' features an ensemble cast led by Matt Damon as Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya and others portraying key figures from the classic myth.

Matt Damon will star as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of the Homeric epic titled 'The Odyssey.' Damon said the part required six months of physical and mental preparation, including a strict diet, and described the production as his most demanding film to date. The project marks his third collaboration with Nolan after "Interstellar" and "Oppenheimer."

Anne Hathaway has been cast as Penelope, Odysseus’s wife, who resists pressure from suitors while believing her husband dead. Hathaway, a previous Nolan collaborator on "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Interstellar," joked on a recent talk show about concerns while filming space scenes.

Tom Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus and Penelope, embarking on a coming-of-age journey. Holland, appearing in a Nolan film for the first time, said the role felt like a pivotal opportunity in his career.

Zendaya is cast as Athena, the goddess who aids Odysseus throughout his voyage. This is her first work with Nolan, and she learned of the casting from her fiancé, Holland.

Robert Pattinson portrays Antinous, the leading suitor of Penelope. Pattinson previously worked with Nolan on "Tenet" and has a varied filmography that includes both franchise and independent projects.

Charlize Theron appears as Calypso, the immortal sea nymph who detains Odysseus on the island of Ogygia. The role reunites her with Damon after their 2000 film "The Legend of Bagger Vance."

Samantha Morton plays the sorceress Circe. Nolan highlighted her performance in an interview, comparing its impact on the film to Heath Ledger’s role in "The Dark Knight."

Lupita Nyong’o takes on dual roles as Helen of Troy and her sister Clytemnestra, while Jon Bernthal debuts as Menelaus, the king of Sparta. Benny Safdie returns as Agamemnon, a character he previously portrayed in Nolan’s "Oppenheimer."

Supporting cast includes Bill Irwin as the Cyclops Polyphemus, rapper Travis Scott as the narrator, Elliot Page as Sinon, and Logan Marshall-Green as the servant Melanthius. The film also features appearances by Robert Pattinson’s co-star Robert Pattinson and other notable actors.

Nolan explained that Scott’s narration was intended to echo the oral tradition of the original poetry, likening it to rap. Scott also contributed an original song for the closing credits, co-written with composer Ludwig Göransson.
