Napa County charges Paul Pelosi with misdemeanor hit-and-run after July crash

摘要

Paul Pelosi, 86, was charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run and an unlawful turn after his Maserati struck a parked Tesla in Yountville, California, on July 3.

Napa County District Attorney's Office filed a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge against Paul Pelosi, 86, the husband of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, following a July 3 collision in Yountville, California. Prosecutors say Pelosi was driving a Maserati convertible when he hit a parked Tesla and continued driving for about half a mile before his vehicle broke down. He later told police he intended to return and leave his information, but did not attempt to contact the Tesla's owner at the time.

The complaint also includes an infraction for making an unlawful turn. The hit-and-run charge carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail, a fine up to $1,000, or both, and may result in a probation period of up to one year. Authorities have requested that Pelosi undergo a behind-the-wheel driving test, and the district attorney indicated the court could impose a driving restriction as a condition of probation.

Pelosi's attorney, Amanda Bevins, did not respond to a request for comment, and a spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi was not immediately reachable. The filing notes that Pelosi has a history of traffic violations, including a 2022 DUI conviction and at least seven other infractions such as speeding, running red lights, and driving the wrong way on a one-way street between 2011 and 2023.
