Texas Hill Country Floods Claim Two Lives as Governor Declares Disaster

Resumen

Heavy rains caused flash flooding in central Texas, resulting in at least two deaths and prompting Gov. Greg Abbott to declare a major disaster for 28 counties.

Heavy rainfall across the Texas Hill Country, west of San Antonio and Austin, led to rapid rises in water levels that have killed at least two people. The flooding, which affected the same region that experienced severe floods last July, prompted flash-flood warnings in several locations.

Governor Greg Abbott announced a major disaster declaration on Friday for 28 counties that were hardest hit, allowing state assistance to begin as residents assess damage and start rebuilding.

"The situation remains dangerous, and we urge residents to follow all warnings and avoid flooded areas," the governor's office said.

Authorities continue to monitor water levels, and some areas are still experiencing high flow despite the waters receding in other locations.
