Epstein survivors criticize Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche after meeting

Resumen

Victims of Jeffrey Epstein said the meeting with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche was unsatisfactory, while Senator Thom Tillis said he appreciated Blanche’s participation as he seeks Senate confirmation.

Victims of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein expressed disappointment after meeting with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, describing the encounter as condescending and evasive. Annie Farmer, one of the survivors, said she felt more confident urging senators to vote against Blanche’s confirmation, noting a contrast between his demeanor in the meeting and his public testimony.

Senator Thom Tillis, who had said he would not advance Blanche’s nomination without a meeting with the victims, said he appreciated Blanche’s participation and praised him for meeting the survivors, a step he said previous officials had not taken.

The Department of Justice said the discussion was “productive” and that Blanche answered questions, outlined investigative needs, and encouraged victims to engage with FBI investigators. Blanche told reporters that he could not promise the form of justice the victims sought, but indicated that prosecutions might be possible in the future.

The meeting comes as Blanche’s nomination faces opposition from all Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and uncertainty among Republican senators, including Tillis and John Cornyn, who have raised concerns about a proposed DOJ fund. If the committee does not advance his nomination, Blanche could continue serving as acting attorney general.

A DOJ spokesperson said the agency remains committed to pursuing justice for victims of human trafficking and sex crimes.
