Prime Video's God of War series to recast lead after actor's bicep injury
Actor Ryan Hurst suffered a torn bicep on set, prompting Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios to replace him as Kratos and reshoot completed episodes.
Prime Video's live-action adaptation of the PlayStation franchise "God of War" will replace its lead actor after Ryan Hurst tore a bicep during a stunt. The injury required surgery, and while studios had hoped Hurst could return by mid-August, typical recovery periods of four to six months would not align with the production schedule.
"The production couldn't wait that long," sources told Deadline, leading to the decision to cast a new performer as Kratos.
The series halted filming immediately after the injury and remains paused, with plans to resume shooting in Vancouver around mid-October. Four episodes that were already completed will need to be reshot with the new lead. The show, which also features Callum Vinson as Atreus, is slated to film two seasons consecutively, according to studio sources.
No replacement actor has been announced, and Hurst, who had gained 40 pounds of muscle for the role, will not return to the project.
