McGregor seeks medical update and calls for no-contest ruling after TKO loss to Holloway
Conor McGregor said he will receive scan results on his injured leg and argued the UFC 329 bout should be declared a no-contest, though rules do not currently allow it.
Conor McGregor posted on social media early Thursday that he will receive the results of a medical scan on his leg tomorrow following a first-round TKO loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329. The Irish fighter, returning after a five-year hiatus, suffered a knee injury within 69 seconds of the fight, which ended his comeback attempt.
"The fight should be a no contest and all bets returned," McGregor wrote, adding that he will have the scan results the next day.
McGregor did not indicate whether he plans to formally appeal the decision. Under current UFC rules, a bout can only be ruled a no-contest if it ends due to an illegal strike, which was not the case in this match.
The loss extends McGregor’s recent losing streak to three fights; his last victory was a 40-second TKO of Donald Cerrone in January 2020. The fighter previously withdrew from a scheduled June 2024 bout with Michael Chandler after breaking a toe and has faced legal issues unrelated to the current fight.
