LeBron James remains undecided on next team, hints at decision soon

LeBron James did not disclose a new team during Thursday’s live taping of his "Mind the Game" podcast at Fanatics Fest in New York. He fielded suggestions from the audience, mentioning the Golden State Warriors and the Philadelphia 76ers, but offered no firm commitment. Later, at a CNBC/Boardroom Game Plan panel in the same venue, James told fans he would announce his decision soon, saying, "> I won’t hold you guys up too much longer."

James, who will be 42 in December, reiterated that he expects to remain a productive player wherever he signs. He said, "> Looking forward to what’s next as I wind down the final stages of my journey. Wherever I land in the fall, it’s going to be pretty fun and I’ll do what I do best."

Having announced last month that he will not return to the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons, James said he is weighing offers from the Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets and Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2026-27 season. He thanked Lakers owner Jeanie Buss and described his time in Los Angeles as "an unbelievable ride."

When asked about criticism of his age, James responded that comments suggesting he might become a play-in participant motivated him. He also noted that a move to Philadelphia, Cleveland or Miami would shift talent toward the Eastern Conference, a trend he identified as a major storyline of the offseason.

In response to a fan’s question about his favorite team, James listed the 2006 Miami Heat, the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers, the 2020 Los Angeles Lakers and the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, emphasizing his focus on championship experiences.

Co-host Tyrese Haliburton attempted to prompt James for a definitive answer, but James reminded him that he had agreed not to reveal any details at that time. The decision on James’s next destination remains pending.
