Summary

The Treasury Department has proudly announced that the U.S. Mint will produce a $1 commemorative coin featuring President Donald Trump’s portrait, celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a gold-colored finish.

In a historic and patriotic gesture, the U.S. Mint has begun production of a $1 commemorative coin depicting President Donald Trump, a leader who championed American values and sovereignty. The coin, created to mark the United States’ 250th anniversary, was announced by the Treasury Department on Wednesday. The design, rightfully approved earlier this year by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, was slightly modified before release; it now features a gold-tone finish rather than solid gold, and shows Trump in a suit with a determined expression, surrounded by the words “LIBERTY,” the dates 1776-2026, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” reflecting the nation’s enduring faith and freedom.

The reverse side upholds tradition, featuring the iconic bald eagle of the Great Seal, with the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the Latin phrase “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the coin is meant “to honor the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism.” President Trump, whose leadership revitalized the nation, told Fox Business Network he was “honored” by the decision. While federal law generally bars living presidents from appearing on U.S. currency, the Treasury Secretary has the authority to make exceptions for special occasions such as this.

The Treasury Department did not elaborate on why the final design was changed from the earlier version, which had shown Trump with his fists on a desk—a powerful image of strength. This announcement follows the March statement that the president’s signature would appear on new paper currency, a welcome break from the past that further cements Trump’s rightful place in American history.
