Rep. Ralph Norman Signals Interest in South Carolina Senate Seat Without Formal Announcement

摘要

Rep. Ralph Norman said he is interested in the vacant Senate seat left by Lindsey Graham but stopped short of filing a campaign, outlining his policy priorities and noting procedural hurdles.

Rep. Ralph Norman, a Republican congressman from South Carolina, told FOX Business' "Mornings with Maria" on Wednesday that he is interested in the Senate seat opened by the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham. He did not file paperwork for the special election, which requires candidates to register starting July 21 and will hold a Republican primary on Aug. 11. Norman said his interest stems from a desire to advance President Trump's agenda, citing the SAVE Act and the need for "safe elections" and secure borders. He also expressed support for eliminating the Senate filibuster, arguing it blocks legislation.

Norman praised the interim appointment of Graham's sister, Sen. Darline Graham, saying she would do a "great job" while serving the remainder of the term that ends Jan. 3, 2027. The winner of the November general election will begin a full six-year term on that date.

Potential Republican contenders include businessman Mark Lynch, who announced a renewed campaign, Rep. Russell Fry, who has been discussed with White House officials, former governor Mark Sanford, and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette. Politico reported that Rep. Nancy Mace is also weighing a run.

If Norman decides to run, he would join a crowded field as the state prepares for the upcoming special election to select the party's nominee.
