Nolan dismisses pre-release criticism of upcoming Odyssey adaptation

摘要

Director Christopher Nolan said early backlash against his film "The Odyssey" is irrelevant because audiences have not yet seen the movie, while critics continue to question casting and historical accuracy.

Director Christopher Nolan told The Telegraph that the controversy surrounding his forthcoming adaptation of "The Odyssey" is "irrelevant" because no one has seen the film yet. He compared the current reaction to the criticism he faced while making his "Batman" trilogy, saying he focuses on honoring the source material and delivering his strongest interpretation.

The film has drawn criticism for casting choices, including Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy and Elliot Page as Sinon, with some viewers arguing that the actors' appearances do not match Homeric descriptions. The trailer has also been criticized for modern language and the lack of Greek actors.

Nolan said, "All I can do is make the best film I possibly can in the most sincere way. It's very different from how anyone else would do it, but that's what adaptation is." He expressed hope that audiences will appreciate the effort once the movie is released.

The cast also includes Zendaya as Athena, Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Charlize Theron as Calypso. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on Friday, July 17.
