Israeli air strike on Gaza police post kills at least seven, including senior officer

Resumen

An Israeli drone attack on a Hamas-run police station in Jabalia killed seven people, among them a senior police officer, while Israeli forces said the target included three militants.

An Israeli drone strike on a police post in the Jabalia district of northern Gaza killed at least seven people, health and police officials said. The victims included Colonel Mohammed Marwan Salem, the head of the local police station, and a woman, according to the Hamas-run interior ministry.

The Israeli military identified Salem as the head of military security for Hamas's Central Jabalia Battalion and said three other individuals – Abdul Malik al-Jabin, Ghassan al-Daqas and Yaman Abu Obeida – were also killed and described them as "terrorists." The strike was reported to have involved four missiles fired at the post near a busy market.

"He was on duty – part of the civilian police force – patrolling the Fallujah roundabout in a civilian vehicle when he was targeted by surveillance aircraft," Mohammed Moussa told Reuters.

The casualties were taken to al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City. In a separate incident, an Israeli strike in Khan Younis killed one person and injured three others, which the Israeli military said targeted a Hamas operative.

Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire that has been in place since October, with Gaza's health ministry reporting over 1,100 deaths from Israeli fire and the Israeli military reporting four soldier deaths in Palestinian attacks.
