Pogačar Wins Stage 10, Extends Lead Over Vingegaard

Resumen

Tadej Pogačar claimed victory on the Tour de France’s Stage 10, widening his overall lead to 3:36 ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, while Remco Evenepoel finished second.

Tadej Pogačar secured his third stage win of the 2024 Tour de France on Tuesday, finishing 15 kilometres from the finish line and expanding his general-classification lead to 3 minutes 36 seconds over Jonas Vingegaard. The Slovenian attacked on the final climb of the 166-km stage that featured seven categorized ascents, creating a decisive gap that he maintained to the finish in Le Lioran.

Remco Evenepoel of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe arrived second, 32 seconds behind Pogačar, after being dropped six kilometres from the finish but leading a sprint of other yellow-jersey contenders. French rider Paul Seixas took third place, two seconds further back. Vingegaard, who finished seventh, was 44 seconds behind the winner and 12 seconds behind Evenepoel.

"Today was incredible. The team did a super good job," Pogačar said after the race. "We targeted this stage since a long time ago."

The stage, contested on France’s Bastille Day, included steep climbs such as the 4.5-km, 8% Col de Pertus, where Pogačar launched his decisive attack. His move left rivals, including Vingegaard and Evenepoel, unable to respond, and he extended his advantage in the final kilometres.

The result further diminishes Visma-Lease a Bike’s chances of challenging Pogačar’s hold on the yellow jersey as the race moves into a transitional week across central France and the Vosges.
