ICE Agent Fatally Shoots Driver in Biddeford, Maine

Resumen

An ICE officer shot a driver who fled a vehicle stop in Biddeford, Maine, marking the second fatal shooting involving the agency in a week, prompting calls for a full investigation.

A federal immigration officer shot and killed a driver in a vehicle on Monday morning in Biddeford, Maine, according to the Department of Homeland Security. State officials, including the governor and the city mayor, said they are seeking a full account of the incident and have demanded a thorough investigation.

The agency said agents were monitoring the last known address of an individual with a removal order when the person left the address in a car around 7 a.m. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which they said tried to flee, leading an officer to fire his weapon out of concern for public safety. The driver was struck and later died from his injuries.

In a separate communication to some members of Congress, the department described the driver as having "weaponized his vehicle toward law enforcement." No video evidence confirming the agency's version of events has been released as of Monday evening. Since 2023, federal agents have fired on more than 20 people, many in vehicles, and in several cases video footage has later contradicted initial official accounts.
