Conor McGregor said he will undergo surgery and complete the last bout of his UFC contract following a knee injury that ended his comeback fight against Max Holloway in 69 seconds.

Conor McGregor said on Monday that he will have surgery and begin rehabilitation before returning to training, with the aim of completing the final fight stipulated in his UFC contract. The 37-year-old suffered a knee injury seconds into his comeback bout with Max Holloway on Saturday, when his right leg buckled during an attempted jumping roundhouse kick, prompting the referee to stop the fight.

In an Instagram post, McGregor wrote that he is grateful for his faith and intends to resume martial-arts practice after recovery. He later posted on X that the injury was unexpected and described the situation as “dark.”

Longtime coach John Kavanagh said the kick that caused the injury had been practiced daily without issue during training. UFC president Dana White said the injury appears to be a torn ACL, though no official diagnosis has been released.

McGregor has not recorded a UFC win since January 2020 and this bout was the most wagered MMA event in BetMGM history. White indicated that many questions remain about McGregor’s future schedule.
