U.S. Conducts New Wave of Strikes After Trump Declares Ceasefire Over

Résumé

U.S. Central Command reported a series of precision strikes on Iranian military sites following President Trump's announcement that a ceasefire had ended, while the United Kingdom moved to designate Iran's Revolutionary Guard and related groups as terrorist entities.

U.S. Central Command said its forces carried out a new wave of precision strikes against Iranian air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone assets, and small boats on Sunday. The attacks, which involved fighter aircraft, naval vessels, and one-way attack drones, were intended to reduce Iran's capability to target commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global trade route.

President Donald Trump told the morning program "Fox & Friends" that the ceasefire with Iran was over and that the United States was "taking over" the strait, adding that the U.S. should be reimbursed for its security role.

In a separate development, the United Kingdom announced plans to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Islamic Movement of Companions of the Right, and Russia’s GRU Volunteer Corps as terrorist organisations under new state-threat powers. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the measures would give police and intelligence agencies stronger tools to prosecute individuals supporting these groups, with penalties ranging up to life imprisonment for sabotage offences.

Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing recent U.S. military actions as the cause, and indicated that passage permits would be issued only through its website.
